Literacy Walk Activity Triad
This Introductory/Intermediate Composition assignment contains three separate activities—a free write, an out-of-seat activity, and a reflection—that encourages students to view literacy outside of traditional notions. Students are encouraged to view physical spaces as moments of literate engagement and meaning making.
Shitty First Draft —> 2nd Draft Focus Stations Activity
This activity guides students through the initial revisions of a Shitty First Draft (Lamott, 2005), expanding content into a quality akin to a 2nd Draft. This activity could be used for a variety of genres of student writing; ensuring students are well-prepared for the language and content of each station is essential to the success of this activity. The instructor should prioritize breaking down terms such as genre, evidence, thesis, style, tone, voice, and more. This activity could be useful in any writing course prioritizing process-oriented pedagogies.
